Tracking signals

Not every email tracking signal means the same thing

Traditional email tracking often depends on invisible images, link redirects, and mailbox events. Those can be useful, but they can also be distorted by Apple Mail Privacy Protection, corporate firewalls, image blocking, and automated security scans.

Opens are soft signals

An open can come from a person, a proxy, or an automated scan. It is useful for trends, but weak as individual proof.

Clicks are stronger signals

A click usually shows more intent, but tracked links can affect deliverability if the sending setup is not clean.

Replies are strongest

A real reply is a clear response, but it is not the same thing as proving what the sender originally sent.

What the receipt can prove

The receipt is an evidence record for what the sender sent and when the mail app reported the message as accepted for sending. It is strongest for proving the sender, recipients, subject, message fingerprint, attachment fingerprints, and receipt creation time.
